Red Hat Forum is the must-attend open source event for the Red Hat community seeking first-hand knowledge of solutions such as hybrid cloud, DevOps, containers and more that are driving innovation and digital transformation.
Given Devoteam’s expertise in open source, our Head of DevOps, Graham Zabel, addressed an audience at this year’s event on DevOps at Scale.
Opening with a succinct definition of DevOps – ‘better quality software, faster’ – before showing some examples of the many models used (Pipelines, Figure of 8, Circles), Graham examined what makes adoption so challenging and discussed how these challenges can be overcome effectively to enable and realise the gains from DevOps.
He declared that the biggest barrier to entry into a DevOps-enabled strategy is the organisation and process that support it and its ability to scale out quickly and consistently from a well-meaning start point.
Evolving DevOps at scale involves a transition from shadow DevOps, through enterprise DevOps, to DevOps as a service, or in an allusion to DevOps expert Dan North, you first need to visualise, then stabilise then optimise.
